Wedding Bands and Guest Etiquette: Don't Be That Guy

Sometimes people say things they immediately regret. Sometimes people do not realize they should not be saying things. If you think you are the kind of person who may say the wrong thing at a wedding band exchange, please heed this advice to make sure you do not embarrass yourself.

We have all heard it. The random guest who thinks you are better friends than you actually are walks up to the happy couple, grabs her wedding band finger and says, “Wow! This really must have cost you a fortune!” to the groom. Not only is this tacky beyond words, but it is also a great way to make people silently loathe you. In polite society, people understand to never talk about finances. Did you pay for the diamond wedding band? No. Enjoy your free food and drinks and keep those thoughts to yourself.

After the wedding bands have been exchanged, people will want to talk to the bride and groom. This is normal. What is not normal is for them to want you to solve their minor problems pertaining to this wedding. It is great to ask questions, but try to find the wedding planner or a bridesmaid and ask them instead. The bride and groom have bigger fish to fry like worrying about their first dance!
